In this discussion seminar, we will start with the Nobel Lecture on Density Functional Theory (DFT) by Kohn. It is shown that, although the cornerstones of DFT, the Hohenberg-Kohn theorem and Kohn-Sham scheme, were proposed in the 1960s, their mathematical foundation was established and accepted much later. Moreover, it is still an open question whether or not this mathematical foundation applies to self-bound nuclear systems. In the second part of this talk, I will introduce our ongoing work about DFT from Functional Renormalization Group (FRG). This aims at deriving an ab initio DFT from realistic nuclear forces with uncertainty quantification.Point
