Abstract

The high precision of the measurement in the field of high energy physics has affirmed the importance to exploit as much of the information as possible from the data collected in the experiment and to quantify with the greater accuracy the inferences one draws when confronting the data with model predictions. The tools necessary to compare data with theory and to quantify the extent to which one stands in agreement the other are the statistical methods. The lecture gives the introduction to statistical data analysis as used in high energy physics, with an overview of the probability theory. The application of introduced statistical tools for the studies performed in the process of research and development of the linear collider case is also presented.
