The 12th International Conference on Hypernuclear and Strange Particle Physics (HYP2015) will take place at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan, from September 7 (Mon) through 12 (Sat), 2015.

Note:

Guide

Final version of HYP2015 scientific program is available.

HYP2015 will be the twelfth one in the series of HYP conferences initiated in 1982 in Heidelberg and held periodically every three years, following the successful 11th HYP conference in Barcelona in 2012. The HYP conference brings together theoreticians and experimentalists working on hadron and nuclear physics with strangeness. The topics of the HYP conference have been extended to related fields such as low-energy aspects of QCD, dense and cold matter, as well as hadronic and nuclear systems with heavier flavors.

The main part of the HYP2015 conference will be held from Monday morning to Friday around noon at the Tohoku University Centennial Hall (Kawauchi Hagi Hall) located in the city of Sendai, where plenary and contributed talks as well as poster sessions will take place. Then it will be followed by “discussion session” at a hot spring hotel in Sakunami near Sendai from the late afternoon on Friday until Saturday morning with a limited number of (about 100) participants.

Sendai

The Sendai city has a population of one million and is the center of the Tohoku District, the northern part of Japan. It is located about 350 km north of Tokyo and can be reached in 1.5—2 hours with a super-express train (Tohoku Shinkansen). The city features an abundance of natural beauty that changes with the seasons. Sendai is called ”Mori no miyako” (the city of green), which illustrates this perfectly. The city has a rich cultural heritage stretching back 400 years to its founding by feudal lord Date Masamune. The city is surrounded by mountains and the Pacific ocean, making its weather reasonably mild.

Average temperature at Sendai in September is 21 degrees C (70F), daily minimum/maximum temperatures are 17/24 degrees C. Autumn in Sendai is mild in principle but you had better prepare clothes for chilly weather and a typhoon (heavy rain and wind). Further information on the city is found in the following WEB page:
http://www.city.sendai.jp/kikaku/kokusai/english/index.html

Discussion Session at Sakunami

In order to deepen scientific discussions among HYP2015 participants, we recommend you, particularly those from abroad, to also attend the discussion session at Sakunami. The participants in the discussion session will move by bus to the hot spring hotel, Ichinobo at Sakunami, located in the suburb of Sendai, and stay there for one night together (we will arrange shared rooms in Futon style for participants. For special room arrangements, please contact to the organizers). The participants will enjoy hot spring bath and a special dinner in Japanese style. We will have plenty of time for discussions in relaxed atmosphere. The participants will go back to Sendai city by train after breakfast on Saturday. (Please note that it is impossible to take a flight from Narita departing before noon, or take a morning flight from Sendai to Narita, on Saturday, if you stay at Sakunami.)

Submission of Contribution Abstracts

We are calling for abstracts of your contribution. Those who wish to give presentations in HYP2015 are requested to submit an abstract by May 15th following the instruction in the HYP2015 web page. All the abstracts need to be submitted through the web system. The oral presentations in the parallel sessions will be selected from the contributed abstracts.

Transportation

Concerning the transportation, detailed instruction with pictures will be given on the HYP2015 web page.

Tokyo (Narita or Haneda Airport) to Sendai

Most foreign participants will land at and depart from the Narita (New-Tokyo) International Airport. The most convenient way to Sendai is to use Narita Express (JR line) from Narita airport to Tokyo station (about 1 hour) and take Shinkansen (super-express) to Sendai station (1.5 to 2 hours, depending on choice of the train). Those who land at the Haneda (Tokyo) International airport can reach Tokyo station by about 30 minutes ride on the Tokyo monorail and the JR-commuter trains.

From Narita airport to Sendai airport, there are domestic flights operated by ANA (one flight in the morning and another in the afternoon, with a flight time of 1 hour). Those who purchased air tickets from a Star Alliance member might combine a Narita-Sendai flight with a small additional charge.

Social Events

The reception will be held at the conference venue (Tohoku University Centennial Hall) in the evening on Monday. All the participants and their accompanying persons are welcome.

The excursion to Matsushima is planned in the afternoon on Wednesday. We will take a boat trip around the Matsushima islands, visit historical temples, and go out to the sea-coast areas to see how they are being recovered from the disaster by tsunami four years ago.

All the participants and their accompanying persons are invited to the banquet scheduled in the evening of Wedenday at a Japanese restaurant in Sendai, after coming back from the excursion.

In addition, the accompanying persons program will be arranged by the organizers. Details will be announced later in the web page.
