** Log of the experiment **

  • Nov.8: Beam time finished at AM4:00. <\li>
  • Nov.5: This morning, Takahashi san went back to Kyoto. We achieved 5GK- for boron target. <\li>
  • Nov.4: Thanks to AGS people. We are getting beautiful beam. The beam is stable and the intensity is good. We found some structure around 600keV for 10B target with 2.5GK- data. <\li>
  • Nov.1: No beam during the daytime. <\li>
  • Oct.31: We have done some calibration runs. Then switch target to 10_B. Estimated number of kaon is about 5G K-. We acquired about 42G K- for 16_O target. <\li>
  • Oct.29: No beam during the daytime. One of our harddisk(/data2) crashed. <\li>
  • Oct.28: We observed some gamma-rays which generated from excitation states of 16_Lambda_O as the results of offline analysis. We analyzed about 30G K-. FB2 tripped after power dip. At this time, we found that potential wire of BD1-plane1 has a large leak current. But efficiency is not so bad. With online analysis we could see slightly difference. Ukai-san made the voltage lower. Now, that status is good. Banu returned to GSI.
  • Oct.25: Started to make new ntuple files which include two more Ge detectors(slot7,17) and is corrected three poor calibrated ones.
  • Oct.20: A slight hint of 16-Lambda-O gamma-rays appeared from offline analysis of 14.3G K-.
  • Oct.19: FB4 trouble probably due to unstable power. Need to change the power. SLOT17 Co pulser HV was found to be too high to give a good coincidence.
  • Oct.18: Offline analysis effeicinecy was found to be low (1/2) due to double pulses of TFA-CFD which look like pileup.
  • Oct.17: SLOT17 CFD time walk was adjusted.
  • Oct.16: 60Co pulser for SLOT17 was broken. PMT replaced. In offline analysis we observed 15-Lambda-N gamma-ray peak(s) at 2.27 keV!
  • Oct.15: Tuned P3 and mass slits to increase K- beam without reducing K/pi ratio. In offline analysis, we confirmed that ADC gains are not shifted at 6 MeV region, and that TDC gates are also OK.
  • Oct.14: The repaired Eurisys detector (G2) was installed to SLOT17 and UHA gain/TFA gain/inhibit length were adjusted.
  • Oct.13: Serious trouble in FB1. Changed TDC slot(24->25).
  • Oct.12: Gamma-ray spectra were made from ntuple files in "agressive" offline analysis (for 7GK-).
  • Oct.11: Found that IC2 also has 5.5% of misidentification of K- as pi-. IC1 has 1.8%.
  • Oct.10: RHIC maintainance. We mounted G14 to SLOT17, and confirmed that it is working well.
  • Oct.9: We checked germanium detector(G14) which arrived from Ortec yesterday, and we found that it is no problem! We are going to mount it tomorrow. Trigger improvement is going on. I moved FC about 1cm to avoid miss correction. We are also considering to place veto countor just in front of FC. We begin to make ntuple file.
  • Oct.7: Beam is very good. Proton intensity is about 24TP (35000DSEC),and this continues relatively constant. We introduced upper threshold for FC. This reduces low degrees K- in the trigger effectively ,and makes DAQ easier. So we opened mass slit. From this, the number of scattered pi per spill*DTEL increases 1.4 times larger than before. Now we are ready for accepting much stronger beam.
  • Oct.5: There seems no problem in our machine status. Beam intensity is about 180k K-/spill. Now, we are getting 15TP, and it is hiting on target well. Adam said that HP tried to increase the limit of chipmunk. So, we hope we could get more high intensity beam. DAQ efficiency is about 80% now. At 20:40,we are getting 22.8TP(33000DSEC). It's 240k K-/spill.
  • Oct.3: This morning, we have no beam because of RHIC study. At 18:00,we have no beam yet. Air conditionor in our trailer has broken. But it was already repaired. Beam started at 18:40. Kishimoto-san tuned D2 and Q1. Then the ratio k-beam to DSEC is 7.
  • Sept.30: Rain. Many trouble. The biggest one is magnet problem. At 18:00, fire alarm rang at D-line trailer. Fire department appeared. It's because of D6-Q5 magnet. There was some trouble on power supply. At 21:30, magnet was repaired. But K-pi ratio is still bad. It's about 10:7. This morning, we opened mass slit again, if we consider about it, this is so bad. Phil and Adam will tune them. From this morning, the resolution of Ge detector (slot1) became worse again. Sigma is about 4.2 keV. Efficiency of FD1 u-plane is still about 75%. Last night, we changed the threshold from 10V to 6.5V. But it's not so effective. We are going to set it to 10V again.
  • Sept.29: Tanida-san has gone... Proton intensity of D line achieved up to 19TP(220k K-/spill). We closed mass slit and changed K-pi ratio from 1:2 to 1:5. Because DAQ efficiency has decreased into 75.3%. Now it's 81.5%. Efficiency of FD1 u-plane is still low. So, we increased gas flow for all chambers.
  • Sept.28: BD1 had repaired completely. One plane of FD1 (u plane) is still low efficiency because of low gas gain. But it's getting better. This morning, we found that FB1 had tripped since wednesday evening. Total K- loss before now is 600M particle. Intensity of proton is about 10TP.
  • Sept.27: We found that one of potential wire of BD1(plane 4) has broken(13:45). Ukai removed it, and now we are waiting for gas flow. At 18:30, efficiency of BD1 is about 70%. At 21:40, efficiency of BD1 is about 80%. AGS continues to tune beam intensity. Intensity of proton at D target is under 8TP. But intensity of main ring is about 20TP. There exists too much loss. After survey by HP,our trailer specified to controled area.
  • Sept.26: Unstable. Intensity of proton is 8-9TP. To increase an intensity of AGS, HP has surveied around the area. If there is no problem, we hope we can get much stronger beam tomorrow. At the begining of afternoon run, we found that there is no data from FERA. After power recycle, they recovered.
  • Sept.25: Proton intensity up to 12Tp. Stable. Spill shape is good (1.4 sec width). We have 130k K-/spill. NIM bin for MT discri was unstable and replaced. Some cable for 2nd level signal was found to be unstable and we lost a few hours Ge data. It should still be monitored.
  • Sept.24: Several MP counters have low efficicency due to low gain. HV/threshold were adjusted again. The UNIDAQ ADC instability could not be solved after all efforts. We gave it up but not a serious problem.
  • Sept.23: Kevin Brown in AGS tuned the primary line. 6Tp stable beam was obtained. Phil brought it up to 8-9Tp. Ge TDC resolution was found to be not bad (6-9 ns FWHM at >1.5 MeV).
  • Sept.22: Power dip again. No beam whole day.
  • Sept.21: Take data with low intensity beam. Q5 trouble. Power dip. ID/FD alignment were studied in offline analysis.
  • Sept.20: AGS spill length was made longer (2.0 sec flat top, 1.4 sec spill), although the intensity is still low ( < 5Tp ). We removed "Takahashi's counter", adjusted target/IC/FC positions, cleared "Total Kaon Beam" scaler and started normal runs. UNIDAQ Ge monitor has started. Ge TDC's were found to have negligible dead time except for SLOT1 (3%) which often oscillates. Various analysis works are in progess.
  • Sept.19: FD2-V is still noisy but found to be not serious because cluster size cut remives the noise and efficiency does not decrease. Took normal trigger data. Ge electronics NIM power trouble. SLOT4 HV shutdown. AGS reduced proton enegy from 24.5 to 21.5 GeV for E930.
  • Sept.18: Took data without the H2O target and with and without the 48D48 field, and then took normal trigger data without the 2nd level trigger. Primary beam tuning and K- yield measurement were done. The beam profile as a function of z was investigated. All Ge's were found to have good livetime (>90%) with weak beam, for both ADC and TDC, by UNIDAQ monitoring system.
  • Sept.17: Took data with various types of triggers. BD missing wires were fixed. The 2nd level trigger and event builder were checked. IT ADCs were investigated.
  • Sept.16: FC threshold was readjusted. Effects of the 48D48 field to counter gains and timings were checked. Normal (K,pi) data and control data (beam through and different triggers) were taken. Also worked on BD missing channels and Ge monitoring system.
  • Sept.15: FD3 thres. was raised due to noise from 48D48. FD3 plateau curve was taken. BGO TDC stop timing and range were changed. Ge SLOT 1 is sometimes very noisy.
  • Sept.14: 48D48 polarity was reversed to pi- mode. Rough beam tuning done. K-/DSEC almost reproduced the value in 1998 run. BD efficiencies were measured and BD1-plane#2 has low efficiency. BD HV's were adjusted.
  • Sept.13: FD3 HV's were readusted. Two bad UHA's were replaced.
  • Sept.12: No beam at all.
  • Sept.11: FD3 HV increased to 2100V and thres lowered to 3.1V which gives 96% efficiency. Worked on missing channels in FD's and BD's. Ready for beam tuning, but beam stopped due to security alert caused by the terrorism.
  • Sept.10: ID/FD threshold/HV were finally determined. Efficiencies are more than 95% for all planes except for FD1V having a missing channel. Noisy channels in FD2-VV' were fixed. FD3 efficiency was found to be low.
  • Sept.9: Ge oscillation problem is observed in ORETC detectors in SLOT1,3,10,18. Except for SLOT1, it happens rarely and is not serious. BD's were checked and some missing/bad channels were found.
  • Sept.8: MT-IT satelite peak trouble disapeared. ID/FD efficiencies were measured as a function of threshold and HV. Low efficiency in FD1-VV' and FD2-XX' were found and solved later by replacing NIM bin for amp/discri's.
  • Sept.7: As for ID/FD problem, we fixed a bad grounding of preamp board but it did not help. Efficiencies of ID/FD's were measured.
  • Sept.6: ID1,2,3,FD1,2 have a large 2nd component in the TDC spectrum. Ge, BGO ADC/TDC's were checked. Ge SLOT1 preamp output sometimes has an oscillation. Missing channel in BGO was fixed. PMT gains of IC1, IC2, FC were raised and threshoulds were readjusted.
  • Sept.5: Thresholds of IC1, IC2, FC were adjusted. Trigger timings were adjusted. The MP problem as completely fixed.
  • Sept.4: ADC gate/TDC stop timings were adjusted. Gain and threshold of MP's are adjusted. Some MP's have low pulse height and we changed discriminator with lower thres. Ge calibration data with 244Cm+13C (for 6 MeV 16O gamma) were analyzed, and resolution was found to be 5-7 keV (FWHM) at 6 MeV. SLOT16 resolution was bad (7.4 keV) due to a bad amplifier (UHA).
  • Sept.3: Proton beam (0.3Tp/spill) hit the D target and we started tuning the counters. Gain check/adjustment of MT,IT,IC,FC,FV was done, and timing of MT1-9 was also adjusted. But in 3 hours the beam stopped and did not come back.
  • Sept.2: Proton extraction to our D line has started on Sept.2, although the beam has not hit the D production target yet. We should stay tuned..
