Second Announcement

We are pleased to announce that the SNP School 2019 will take place at Tohoku University, Sendai, JAPAN, from September 5th to 8th 2019, hosted by J-PARC, RCNP-Osaka, ELPH-Tohoku, KEK IINAS, ANPhA, ASRC JAEA, GP-PU and Graduate School of Science, Tohoku Univ. The school is also supported by MEXT Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas, "Toward New Frontiers : Encounter and Synergy of State-of-the-Art Astronomical Detectors and Exotic Quantum Beams" and "Clustering as a Window on the Hierarchical Structure of Quantum Systems." This is the eighth one of a series of SNP schools, which were held from 2012 every year.

The school will have several lectures and topical talks on strangeness nuclear physics as well as other general subjects such as hadron physics and cold atom physics, which are expected to play central roles in the 21st century nuclear physics research at accelerator facilities for hadron beams such as J-PARC (Japan), GSI and FAIR (Germany), RCNP (Japan) and for electron beams as CEBAF at Jefferson Lab (USA), MAMI-C at Mainz University (Germany) and ELPH at Tohoku University (Japan) etc. Lectures by leading physicists will overview related subjects both from experiment and theory, and topical talks on recent progress and prospects of the fields will be also given. The tour to visit accelerator facility of ELPH-Tohoku is planned as a part of the school. In addition, the school will organize a young researchers' session to give a chance of presentations by young scientists. We encourage you to present your research activities in this session as well as to enjoy the lectures.

It is our intention to establish a new tradition of the school and develop it as an opportunity to foster active young scientists in wide fields of nuclear and related physics to be pursued around the above accelerator facilities in future. Therefore, the participants of the school are assumed to be graduate students and young scientists who have strong motivation to carry out the future nuclear physics research. Together with lecturers who are leaders in these fields, senior participants are also welcome to vitalize the school.

Scheduled lecturers

  • Atsushi Nakamura (RCNP/FEFU)
Canonical Method for Lattice QCD
  • Toshiyuki Azuma (RIKEN)
Precise Spectroscopy of Atom/molecules and Astrophysics
  • Chang-Hwan Lee (Pusan National Univ.)
I: Tidal deformability of neutron stars and gravitation waves

  • Michael Kohl (Hampton University)
Lepton Scattering Experiments

The school will be held at Aobayama Campus, Tohoku University, Sendai, JAPAN. Sendai is located about 350 km north of Tokyo and it faces Pacific Ocean. Detailed information will be given on the web and final announcement.

The school will welcome a maximum of approximately 50 young scientists (graduate students and young scientists) from all over the world both in experiments and in theory. Though budget is quite limited, selected participants have a chance to get financial support for their local expenses during the school. Deadline of application with financial support is the 21st of June, 2019. In addition, the organizers strongly advise the persons who need a visa to enter Japan, to contact the organizer as soon as possible, since the issuance of a visa may take a long time.

  • e-mail address of organizer is snpsc19@lambda.phys.tohoku.ac.jp

The school will organize special sessions to give a chance of presentation for young scientists. Young scientists who give excellent presentation will be honored by awarding Hashimoto prize, ANPhA prize and SNP School Incentive prize. A certificate of SNP School 2019 completion will be awarded to all participants who take lectures and give presentation at the young researchers' session. We encourage young scientists to present their research in the school and enjoy lectures.

Application, Selection of participants and Financial supports

Application form can be submitted from the SNP school 2019 homepage. No registration fee is necessary. Organizer requests participants to arrange overseas travel insurance by themselves.

Selections of participants and financial support for them will be performed based on research interest, activities to be explained in the abstract of the presentation. Graduate students are requested to have a permission from supervisor to attend the SNP School 2019. All young scientists are expected to present his/her activities by poster and/or oral sessions during the school.

Please give a title and one-page abstract which will affect the decision of financial support. Deadline of application requesting financial support and/or VISA is the 21st of June 2019. Later registration results in less chance for financial support. We encourage earlier registration even before the deadline for participants who want to have financial support and/or visa.

Accommodation

Organizer booked limited number of rooms near Sendai station (from 4th night through morning of 9th , 47,400 Yen for 5 nights). If hotel arrangement by the organizer is necessary, please let us know when you register on the web. There are many reasonable priced hotels in Sendai along the subway (East-West Line) and you can easily book accommodation by yourself. They will be fully booked soon and early arrangement is highly recommended. Detailed instruction of transportation will be given later.
