This is the second announcement of the Asia Science Seminar on ``Frontier Science at High-Intensity Proton Accelerators, which is jointly organized by Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS), Tohoku University, Chinese Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) and Institute of High Energy Physics under Chinese Academy of Science (IHEP,CAS).

The seminar is planned primarily for Asian young scientists who have strong interest in scientific research to be carried out at high-intensity proton accelerators such as J-PARC(Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex) and at other accelerator facilities in Asia. In the seminar, lectures will be given by Asian leading scientists on science frontier related to J-PARC in particle/nuclear physics and material/life science, as well as on the accelerator and experimental facilities. In addition, there will be workshop sessions for topical lectures by leading scientists and for presentation and discussion by young scientists.

3. Date and Venue

The seminar will start in the morning of October 19, Sunday, 2008 and continue through October 25, Saturday.

4. Participants

"Registered participants", who are invited to participate in the seminar by the organizers, give lectures or poster presentations, and may attend social events. The registered participants have been already determined. Non-registered participants are also welcome to listen to the lectures and presentations and to join the discussions in the seminar.

5. Program

In the morning, plenary lectures on various science fields and subjects related to J-PARC and other proton accelerators are given by leading scientists in each field including world-famous scientists such as Prof. T. D. Lee and Prof. M. Kobayashi**. The plenary lectures are intended to give a general view of each field to all the participants including those in different fields.

In the afternoon we will have workshop sessions in parallel, one particle/nuclear physics session and two or one material/biological science session(s). In the workshop sessions, several lectures on important topics in each field are given by leading scientists in the field, which are followed by presentations and discussions by young participants.

6. Workshop sessions and poster presentation

The workshop sessions will be held in the afternoon of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday as parallel sessions for (A1),(A2) material/life science and (B) particle/nuclear physics. (In the material/life science workshop, the two sessions (A1) and (A2) run in parallel on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.) All the non-lecturers are requested to give a poster presentation. The size of the poster should be smaller than 130 cm x 90cm. In addition to the poster presentation, the convener of the workshop session may ask (some of) them to make a short oral presentation. A title and a half-page abstract should be submitted to:

Your rooms will be assigned by the organizers. We request non-lecturers to share a twin room. Internet connection is available for all the rooms. We request each of you to pay for your hotel fee, if your travel is not directly supported by JSPS.

From the hotel, you can take the subway #10 from the Suzhoujie station (蘇州街) in front of the hotel to the Zhichunli station (知春里), and then walk for 1 km (See the attached map). The organizers are considering to arrange a transportation between the hotel and the seminar site.

The lunch during the seminar will be prepared by the organizers and provided to all the registered participants free of charge.

8. Social events
  • Banquet
    The welcome banquet will be held on Sunday and the farewell banquet will be held on Friday. All the registered participants are invited.

  • Excursion
    We will visit the Badaling Great Wall in the afternoon on Wednesday. Participants in the excursion are requested to pay 200 Chinese yuan at the registration desk.

  • Some more social events will be arranged by the organizers.

9. On-site Registration

The registration desk will be open during the seminar near the seminar room. In addition, on October 18th, the registration desk for people from overseas will be open in the lobby of the Novotel hotel. At the registration desk, participants will receive a program, an abstract booklet, etc. Tickets for the excursion and the evening show will be sold there.

10. Transportation

The transportation between the airport and the hotel will be partly arranged by the organizers. Details will be announced in the final circular.

11. Final announcement

The final announcement will be distributed before October 15th, in which detailed information on transportation, the scientific program including workshop sessions, the style of oral presentation, etc. will be given.
